Spring Cleaning Bonus Tips

They say a clean home is a happy home! But who the heck are “they”? … Marie Kondo? #Cleantok ? Go Clean Co.? Grandma? Wherever you get your house cleaning inspo… let us add some lesser known areas of your home that could use a good scrub-a-dub-dub for your Spring Cleaning pleasure.

YOUR WASHING MACHINE: This one is two fold… no pun intended… 1. Have you ever noticed that tiny little “drawer” at the bottom of your washing machine? That houses the drain pump filter and the drain hose. Open it and prepare to be amazed by all of the hair, lint, crunchy leaves, and other smegma that has built up in there! Each washing machine model has its own set of instructions for clean out, but a simple internet search such as “how to clean my [insert your brand] washing machine filter” should take you to the easy and quick how to for your specific make/model.  2. The washer tub (the spot where your clothes go) tends to get stinky and mildew-y over time. These can be thrown in once a month to keep the washing vessel squeaky clean and your clothes smelling splendid as well!

YOUR GARBAGE CANS: We usually line our indoor garbage bins with bags to take outside to pile up in the big cans. I don’t know about yours, but our trash tends to be leaky and after a while, our garbage cans are NASTY! Ever thought about getting your cans washed? US EITHER! Until we met Melissa and her family at Nice Cans! Nice Cans is a local service that comes to your house and takes your outdoor garbage can from gunk to glow in minutes! We HIGHLY RECOMMEND this service if you’re in the Bay Area. If you are elsewhere, it is a very high possibility that a similar service exists in your area and you don’t even know it! We love supporting local and keeping clean at the same time!

YOUR GARBAGE DISPOSAL: Think about it…ew! If you’ve ever noticed something funky going on in your kitchen, its likely the stench coming from the odds and ends we throw down the garbage disposal. (Fun fact from our favorite home inspector, most plumbers hate garbage disposals and don’t recommend putting much of anything down there, BUT since we all do…) Freshening them up once a week is a great idea: we love these and it takes less than 90 seconds!

It’s time to throw on your sweats, press play on your favorite playlist (we recommend this one), and get busy around the house! You’ll thank yourself later and probably have fun along the way!

Happy Cleaning, friends!
